Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Ilo Mae Ehrhardt, age 93, of West Union, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Heritage Care Center in Mason City, Iowa. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time. At her request, her body was cremated. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Ilo was born November 29, 1917 near Garnavillo, Iowa, daughter of Karl "Charlie" and Iona (Pahlas) Stiehl. She attended Hope School and graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1934. She attended Elkader Junior College in Elkader, Iowa. After graduation, she spent several years teaching country school in Clayton County. On August 20, 1939 she married Carroll G. Ehrhardt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa where she worked at Kelvington's Floral Shop. After a few years, she returned to teaching school again. In 1946, the couple purchased the Hawkeye Locker in Hawkeye, Iowa, retiring in 1976. After retirement she sold Tupperware for a few years and was an Avon representative for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll who died in 2006 and a sister, Fern Walther.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Dennis K. Ehrhardt of Lafayette, Louisiana, a daughter, Debra L. Hanson of Mason City, Iowa, 3 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren.
