Maloy George Alto Gruetzmacher was born Nov. 7, 1900 in Garnavillo as the youngest child of Mr. John Gruetzmacher and his wife Ida nee Ahrens. He was baptized on May 26, 1901, by Rev. Gemelan. He was confirmed with a class of twenty in 1915 and grew to manhood in our midst. He graduated from Garnavillo Public School in 1919 and from Guttenberg school in 1920. Ever since then he was employed as a teacher. One year in Erin school and seven years in Eagle district of Clayton. His health began to fail him last December. His eagerness for work on the farm and his school did not permit him take the necessary rest. He attended to his school duties until the first part of March when his strength began to fail. All that medical aid and mother’s love and kindness could do was done to restore him to health. He was removed to the Postville hospital May 14th and it seemed as if he was on the road to recovery but on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock he peacefully passed away. He had reached the age of 27 years, 5 months and 23 days. He was very successful as a teacher, an industrious young man of fine qualities which made him well liked by everyone who knew him. He leaves to mourn his grief his stricken mother, Mrs. Ida Gruetzmacher, three uncles, six aunts and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment in the new cemetery, Rev. K. Wm. Braun officiating.
