One of the saddest deaths and one which aroused the sincere sympathy of the entire community, of recent years occurred here last Friday, May 18th, at noon, when Viola Theresa Francis Meyer suddenly passed away at the home of her parents.
Viola had been ill for about two weeks, but apparently was nearly full recovered when she suffered a heart attack and died almost instantly.
Viola Theresa Francis, the oldest daughter of Eldo and Josie (Miller) Meyer, was born February 6th, 1916, Castalia, Iowa. Most of her life was spent here in Elkader, where her father is employed in the local Ford garage. Her sudden death cast deep sorrow over those who remain, her parents, one sister, two brothers, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Miller, all of this place, besides a number of other relatives and friends.
Viola was a pupil in St. Joseph’s parochial school, where she was active in numerous activities and here she will be missed almost as much as in the home.
Funeral services were held from the late residence last Saturday afternoon at four o’clock and interment was made in St. Joseph’s cemetery, with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
The sincere sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief stricken parents and other relatives.
