Mrs. John (Wilhelmina Patow) Hagensick
Mrs. John Hagensick, nee Wilhelmina Patow, was born in Germany Jan. 14th, 1853, and passed away at her home in Elkader, Ia., May 17, 1928, at the age of 75 years, four months and three days.
At the age of 12 years she came with her parents to America. The family settled in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Having grown to womanhood, Wilhelmina was united in marriage to John Hagensick on February 4, 1871.
Eleven children were born to them, four sons and seven daughters. Her husband, one son and three daughters preceded her in death.
For some time her health was not of the best, and for the last six weeks she failed visibly. Some of her children and loved ones were constantly at her bedside, and everything possible was done to give comfort and relief to the dear mother, until she closed her eyes in the last sleep in the early hours of Ascension Day.
The departure of a loving mother is mourned by three sons and four daughters; William Hagensick of Brookings, S. D., John D. Hagensick, of Chetek, Wis.; Glen Hagensick, of St. Olaf, Ia.; Mrs. Anna Wagner, of Elkader, Ia.; Mrs. Alma Samp, of Oelwein, Ia.; Mrs. Wilhelmina Moser and Mrs. Amanda Looby, of Nunda, S. D. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and other relatives and many old-time friends and neighbors. She will be missed in the Evangelical church and the Frauen-Verein, of which organizations she was a faithful member.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical church, Rev. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
