Gertrude Catherine Hansel, nee Thein, was born in Elk Township, Garber, Iowa, on March 23rd, 1879.
She was the daughter of Joseph and Minnie Thein. She passed away April 21st 1928 at the age of 49 years and 29 days. She was united in marriage to Marshall Hansel on September 12th, 1897 at Garber, Iowa. To this union were born twelve children of whom ten are still living. Dorothy and Rudolph preceded her in death. Living are Raymond, Gladys, Gertrude, Alice, Marshall Jr., and Grace. Also seven brothers and three sisters.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Hansel moved to Greeley, Ia., where they lived for sixteen years. They then moved back to Garber and came to Arlington vicinity two years ago.
Mrs. Hansel was a devoted wife and mother, much loved by her husband and children. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, husband, children, brothers and sisters, grand-children and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at St. Hohns (sic) Evangelical Church, at one o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Reverend Wm. Anderson, officiating. Interment at the Hansel Cemetery. The pallbearers were her six brothers.
