Martha Voss Probert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Voss, was born at Elkader, Iowa, February 14, 1884 and died at her home in Highland neighborhood near Volga, Ia., March 19, 1928, at the age of 44 years, 1 month, and 5 days.
Martha spent practically all of her life in and around Volga. She graduated from the Volga High school in 1901, and later attended the Iowa State Normal School at Cedar Falls. She taught in the primary department of the Volga school and in the rural schools of the neighboring community.
At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Presbyterian Church of Volga. She was a consistent Christian, loyal to the cause of Christ and to the church of her choice.
She was married to H. Oaklin Probert on December 15, 1906 and to this union five children were born as follows: Hazel, now a teacher; Florence, who preceded her mother in death and Dean, Glen, and George, who are at home with their father.
Although she was always active in every good work in the community, she was deeply deboted to her home and to her family, who dearly loved her. Besides her family, she leaves behind to morn her departure, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Voss , of Fort Dodge, one sister, Mrs. A. C. Gienappe, of Fort Dodge, one brother, Julius Voss and family of Highland, her husband’s father, Wm. Probert, of Volga, her husband’s sister, Miss Eva Probert of Volga, her husband’s brother, Ernest Probert and family of Highland and a host of friends which was bounded only by the circle of her acquaintance.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Volga Wednesday afternoon, March 21, at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. N. Ernest Bottom, pastor of the church. The splendid audience which filled the church to overflowing was evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The pastor spoke from the theme, “A Glimpse of God’s Viewpoint” the text being “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints”. Psalm 116:15. The body was laid to rest in the Volga cemetery.
