Mrs. Mary Ann Hesner received the sad word from Chicago last Thursday announcing the death of her son, Morris, who died in the Mercy hospital. Morris Charles Hesner, son of Geo. And Mary Ann Hesner was born on a farm five miles northeast of town (Strawberry Point) Sept. 7, 1889. With his parents he moved to town and attended the local public school after which he took bookkeeping in Parkers College at Winnebago, Minn., where he graduated in June, 1910. For a number of years he was clerk in the Riddell Grocery store now owned by Noble Rulon & Co. He was a member of the town council for two years. At Elkader he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Bente, of that place May 12, 1914. To this union were born three sons, Morris, Jr., Harold and Kenneth. In 1920 he purchased the hardware store and remained in business about a year when he sold out and engaged in farming near Volga for a short time. He later moved his family to Chicago, where he secured a position in one of the hardware stores where he hurt his right hand about a year ago; blood poisoning set in which caused his death. His father died April 29, 1917. Besides his sorrowing wife and three sons, he leaves his heart broken mother, three brothers and four sisters, Capt. Geo. Hesner, M. C. of Alcatraz, Cal., Claire Hesner of Independence, Iowa, Harold Hesner of this place, Mrs. R. L. Alderson of Tama, Iowa, Mrs. Carl Gamm of Waverly Iowa, Mrs. J. J. Martin of Volga, Iowa, and Mrs. G. D. Eckhert of Marion, Iowa. The remains were shipped to Elkader Saturday where funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. Franke, pastor of the Ev. Luth. Church. Interment took place in the East Side cemetery.

_____ _____ _____
Morris Charles Hesner, a former resident of Clayton County, Iowa, passed away a few hours after midnight on Thursday morning, March 8th, 1928, at the Jackson Park Hospital, Chicago, Ill., at the age of 38 years, five months and 23 days, the mortal remains were brought back to Elkader, to the Henry Bente home.
Morris Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hesner, was born on September 15th, 1889, at Strawberry Point, Iowa.
On May 12th, 1914, he was married at Elkader, Iowa, to Miss Elizabeth Bente, daughter of Mr and Mrs. William Bente. The young couple made their home in Strawberry Point, where the groom was engaged in business. After a few years they moved on a farm near Volga City, where they remained about six years, when, after a short stay in Dubuque, Iowa, they moved to Chicago, Ill., where Mr. Hesner has been employed in a hardware store for the past three years.
About two years ago Mr. Hesner suffered considerable from blood-poisoning, caused by an infection in the hand. For a time his condition was very serious; and after that it seemed as though he was never able to regain his strength and vitality. During the last few weeks he was failing fast, requiring much and constant care. And this unceasing care he surely received from the hands of his loving wife and other relatives. As a natural result of that untiring care and continual strain of the last few weeks, Mrs. Hesner is under the Doctor’s care herself for the present, and was not able to come along to Elkader.
The departure of the beloved husband and father is quite a shock for Mrs. Hesner and her three children: Morris Junior, Harold and Kenneth, at the age of eleven, ten and four years respectively.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary A. Hesner, of Strawberry Point, three brothers and four sisters:
Dr. G. E. Hesner of Alcatrez, California.
Mrs. Nellie M. Alderson, of Tama, Iowa (who is ill at the present time.)
Mrs. Lillie Gamm, of Waverly, Iowa.
Claire Hesner, of Independence, Iowa.
Mrs. Vera M. Martin, of Volga City, Iowa.
Mrs. Fretta M. Eckhart, of Marion, Iowa.
And Harold H. Hesner, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, March 11th, at the Henry Bente home and in the Evangelical Church, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side Cemetery.
