Hiram O. Harrington
Friends are sorry to learn of the death of Hiram O. Harrington, a former
resident of this place (Strawberry Point), who passed away at the Oakdale
sanitarium (24 Dec 1927). Following is an account which appeared in the
Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Times Journal: Hiram O. Harrington, 77 years of
age, died at Oakdale Saturday where he had been for 12 years following a
long illness with lung trouble. The body was brought to this city Monday and
funeral services were held at the Brown undertaking parlors Tuesday
afternoon at 1:30 p. m., in charge of Rev. J. F. Moore, pastor of the
Congregational church of this city, and the remains were placed in the
receiving vault in Oakland cemetery for burial later. Mr. Harrington was
born in Chautauqua County, N. Y., Nov. 10, 1850. He accompanied his parents
here in 1854, settling on a farm between Strawberry Point and Edgewood. He
grew to young manhood there and was united in marriage with Miss Clara Huene
of Cleveland, Ohio, in March, 1880 and lived on the homestead. The wife died
in 1890, and Sept. 12, 1893, Mr. Harrington was married to Miss Bertha
Huene, now Mrs. E. L. Simpson of this city. Three children were born, one
son Percil, who died four years ago; Howard of Sacramento, Calif., and Hazel
of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Harrington is also survived by one sister, Mrs.
Amy Culberton, of Edgewood, Iowa, and one brother, J. L. Harrington, of
