Mrs. Eliza Kamoss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Allenstein was born on
a farm near Lamont, Iowa, Oct. 31, 1864. Her parents being members of the
St. Sebald Lutheran church she was baptized by Rev. Grossman and after due
instruction she was confirmed by Rev. H. Fuehr. On Dec. 26, 1884 she was
married to Gustav Kamoss and they started farming on a farm in McCook
County, South Dakota. They lived here for five years and returned to Iowa
and took possession of a farm four miles southwest of Strawberry Point. From
there they retired and came to this town (Strawberry Point, Iowa). Mrs.
Kamoss was in poor health for the past five years and often times had severe
attacks of heart trouble. She endured many hours of suffering and last
Thursday departed this life at 4:15 p.m. Burial was made in the Strawberry
Point cemetery Sunday afternoon. Rev. M. Jahr, pastor of the Lutheran church
conducted the funeral services. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband
and five children, Henry on the home farm, Eckart of Grundy Center, Iowa,
Mrs. Esther Snyder of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Ottilie Pilgrim on a farm near
Edgewood, Iowa, and Mrs. Lydia Baker of Hawkeye, Iowa, two little sons, Emil
and Frank having died in infancy. She also leaves three brothers, August
Allenstein of Strawberry Point, Frank and Henry of Lamont, Iowa, one sister,
Mrs. Ernest Opperman of this place and twelve grandchildren. The casket
bearers were F. M. Balluff, Geo. Schuchman, Wm. Baldridge, Joe Birrer, Fred
