Albert Henkes Laid to Rest

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 1979 at the Garden City United Methodist "White" Church in Monona, for Albert Elmer Henkes. Pastor Carrol Brown officiated. Organist was Mrs. Ivon Schultz, soloist was Mrs. Tom James. Pallbearers were Larry Henkes, Scott Henkes, Stanley Mielke, Fred Huff, Jr., and Bartley Needham. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Albert Elmer Henkes, the son of Louis and Ida Roth Henkes, was born July 2, 1891 in Monona Township, Clayton County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical faith, attending school in the area. He was a farmer until his retirement and also hauled cream for 25 years.

On October 16, 1912 he was united in marriage to Laura Klasen. To this union four sons were born; Kenneth, Harlan, Roger, and Curtis. He died Thursday, November 22, 1979 at the Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, after an extended illness. He reached the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 20 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Laura, who died on May 9, 1966, his brothers Clarence, Lester, and Oscar, and his sister, Mabel Schlitter. Surviving him are his sons, Kenneth, Roger, Curtis, of Monona; and Harlan of Fairfax, Iowa; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; his brother, Everett of Marquette; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Miller of McGregor and Mrs. Harvey (Irene) Kuthe of Monona. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
