Dorothy Ellen Hinzman

Funeral services were held for Dorothy Ellen Hinzman, 78, Friday, May 8, 1992, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. Pastor Neal Solomonson officiated the service with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren. Pallbearers were Troy Meyer, Michael Hinzman, Timothy Harbaugh, Chad Harbaugh, Darren Harbaugh, Matthew Hinzman, Paul Duwe and Mark Duwe.

Dorothy Ellen Hinzman was born September 17, 1913, near Wishek, N. D., the daughter of James and Emma (Mueller) Havelick. She attended country school and received her diploma June 14, 1928, at the Elkader Opera House. Dorothy cleaned homes and worked at the Heidelberg Gardens in Luana as a waitress. On May 25, 1939, she was married to Ray Hinzman at Lamont. Together they farmed by Waukon, Rossville, Postville, Volga City, Garber and Garnavillo before moving to Guttenberg in 1965. While in Guttenberg she worked at the Egg Plant, Muters and later helped in the office at the Dubuque Pack buying station in Guttenberg until her retirement.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Patricia) Meyer, Mrs. Allen (Shirley) Leliefeld and Mrs. Dennis (Rosalie) Duwe, all of Guttenberg, Mrs. George (Mary Lou) Harbaugh Jr. of Colesburg; six sons, Ralph of Garnavillo, Robert, Richard and Raymond of Guttenberg, Roger and Ronald, both of Dubuque; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Havelick of Monona; four sisters, Irene Kliefoth, Mrs. Adelbert (Darlene) Whittle, Mrs. Ivan (Donna Mae) Melcher, all of Monona; and Mrs. Elton (Margaret) Kennett of Dekalb, Ill.

Preceding her in death were her husband Ray in April 1968; her parents; one grandson, Randy Harbaugh; a brother, Clarence, and two infant sisters.
