Ed Heins

Funeral service for Ed Heins was held Saturday, Feb. 26, 1994, 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. The Rev. R. Michael Brown officiated. Special music was provided by Kim Schutte, accompanied by Karen Brown, organist. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Ed Heins, son of Henry and Wilhelmine (Martens) Heins, was born December 17, 1895, near Luana, IA. He died Thursday, Feb. 24, 1994, at the Health Care Manor, New Hampton, at the age of 98 years.

He was baptized September 3, 1896, by the Rev. F. H. Schumann and confirmed April 12, 1908, by the Rev. R. Kuehne. On September 16, 1916, he was married to Clara Leonore Kuthe by the Rev. Eugene Schmidt. To this union five children were born. The family spent most of their life on a farm near Luana, moving to their farm near Clermont in 1946.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara, who died March 24, 1970, a grandson, Joseph Edward Olson, four brothers, Rudolph, Henry, William and Louis, two sisters, Ella (John) Bittner and Anna (Charles Sr.) Senholz.

Surviving are three sons: Welmer Heins, Postville, Harvey Heins, Gunder, and Harold Heins, Clermont; two daughters, Aleta and her husband, Roger Reeder, Elgin, and Darlene Heins, New Hampton, a special friend, Olga Halverson, St. Olaf; 11 grandchildren, Wayne Olson, Wanda Knock, Michael Olson, Mark Olson, Scott Olson, Diana Reeder, Duane Reeder, Roger Lee Reeder, Russell Reeder, Mary Sutter, Rita Smith; 10 great grandchildren, Michele Knock, David Knock, Holly Olson, James Olson, Tamara Reeder, Chad Reeder, Nathasha Reeder, Miranda Reeder, Troy Sutter, Danny Junghohann; three great, great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. In December of 1993, he celebrated his 98th birthday at the Health Care Manor, New Hampton. Ed will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing and dancing.

Casket bearers were Duane Reeder, Michael Olson, Roger Reeder, Mark Olson, Russell Reeder, Scott Olson.

Honorary casket bearers were Wayne Olson, Louie Sutter Jr., Larry Knock, Danny Junghohann, Troy Sutter, David Knock, Wayne Martie.
