Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Gertrude Bluck, age 72, of Preston, Minnesota died Wednesday, November 19, 1986 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Services were held Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa with the Rev. John Moran of St. Patrick's in Monona and the Rev. Robert Kulas of St. Columban's Catholic Church in Preston, Minnesota co-officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Church Cemetery in Monona, Iowa with Thauwald Funeral Home of Preston in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were her grandsons Bobby Stamper, Jason Echard, Terry Welch, Scott Mork, Johnny Micki, Troy Scheffert, Kim Welch, Todd Mork, and Bret Echard.
Gertrude "Gert" was born January 3, 1914 in Allamakee County to Obert and Clara (Klein) Harris. She attended West Grove rural school. On February 5, 1930 she married Louis Hangartner. He died in 1952. She married Robert O. Bluck in Monona, Iowa on June 25, 1955. They owned and operated the Volney Cheese Factory for many years. After moving to State Center, Iowa, she worked at Marshall County Care Center. They moved to Preston, Minnesota in 1979 where she was a member of St. Columban's Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, and three brothers, George Harris, Russell Harris, and Leo "Dutch" Harris.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; 3 sons, Jack Hangartner of Charles City, Iowa, Jerry Hangartner of Waterloo, Iowa, and Greg Hangartner of West Allis, Wisconsin; 4 sisters, Mrs. Don (Joyce) Mork of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. Ralph (Joanne) Welch of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Duane (Judy) Scheffert of Monona, Iowa and Mrs. Dale (Sandy) Echard, also of Monona, Iowa; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Milo Harris of Lynxville, Wisconsin, Robert "Bill" Harris of Postville, Iowa, Virgil Harris of Roselle, Illinois, and Don Harris of Bishop, California; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Harlan (Beulah Meyer) Schultz of Postville, Iowa, Ruth Burnham of Sparta, Wisconsin, Hazel Pearcy of Preston, Minnesota, and Mrs. Marvin (Lula) Kruse of Luana, Iowa.
