DEATH’S HARVEST

Grim death has again entered this vicinity to reap his harvest and on Tuesday and Tuesday night four homes were saddened by his visitation.

At the J. W. Troupe home south of this city Tuesday night, Mrs. Addis passed quietly away, death resulting from a fractured hip. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. this afternoon from the Troupe home, Rev. Van Swearingen being in charge.

In writing of the funerals in next week’s issue, there will be given more details of the lines of those who have answered the last call of their Maker.

MRS. ADDIS

Thursday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Troupe, occurred the funeral of Mrs. Jas. R. Addis, Rev. Van Swearingen being in charge. He took as his text Genesis 25:8, his subject being “A Ripe Old Age” Interment was made in the local cemetery.

Hannah Sanders was born in Binghamton, N. Y., January 9, 1827. In 1845 she was married to Jas. R. Addis. In 1855 they moved to Iowa, settling first near Independence, then moved to Cedar Rapids, and for the past 27 years lived at this place.

To the union four children were born, Julia, Loretta, Marietta, and Emma, all living, and all at her bedside when the end came, except Marietta, who died 8 years ago. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Independence. She was 80 years, 11 mo. 21 days of age at the time of her death. She was a kind mother and a good friend to all who knew her.
