Myron Houg Services Held
Funeral services for Myron Houg were conducted by Rev. William Palmquist Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m., at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, followed by committal in the church cemetery. Muehlethaler Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Myron Ensell Houg was born April 18, 1915, in Marion Township, Clayton County, to Elling and Marie (Olson) Houg. He was raised and educated in the area attending Marion Township Country School. He was baptized May 30, 1915, and confirmed Nov. 28, 1929, both at Marion Lutheran Church.
Myron lived his entire life in the Gunder area except for just under five years when he served in the U. S. Army and Air Force. He was honorable discharged in December 1945.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Marie Butikofer April 10, 1947, at Marion Lutheran Church. Four children were born to this union. They farmed on the home farm until 1980 when they had a sale. They continued to live on the farm until Myron's health failed. They moved to Elgin two weeks prior to his death.
Myron was a member of Elgin American Legion, past chairman and longtime board member of Marion Community ASC Committee of Clayton County.
After a few days in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, Myron died Friday, March 17, at the age of 73 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Agnes Reierson, Hilda and Alice Hough, and two nephews, Lloyd Loftsgard and Raymond Loftsgard.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, Marvin, Cedar Rapids; Loren, Waterloo, and Lowell, Elgin; daughter, Marlys, Mrs. Gordon Oakland, Ossian; five granddaughters, Kaarn, Julie and Leann Oakland, and Michelle and Heather Houg; a brother, Joseph, Elgin; two sisters, Ruth Loftsgard, Elgin, and Emily Erickson, Wadena, and several nieces.
