Joseph Henry August Duwe

Joseph Duwe, well known retired farmer, passed away early Monday morning at his home in this city following a brief illness. He would have been 62 years old had he lived until March 21.

Funeral services will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in this city on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating, and interment will be in Postville cemetery.

Joseph Henry August Duwe was born at Guttenberg on March 21, 1882, the son of Henry Duwe and Marie Dennenbrink Duwe. In early childhood he accompanied his parents to Grand Meadow township where the family home was established and the remainder of his life was spent as a resident of this community. Mr. Duwe was a progressive and prosperous farmer, retiring from the farm in 1934 and with his family moved to Postville which had since been his home.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Bareis of Postville by the late Rev. E. Bockelmann on October 2, 1902. To this union seven children were born, of whom six survive him.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Roy Duwe of Postville; Celia (Mrs. Harvey Engelhardt) of Luana; Florence (Mrs. Chas. Schutte, Jr.) of Postville; Clara (Mrs. Lloyd Schroeder) of Postville; Helen and Viola Duwe at home. Also surviving are two brothers, Herman and Walter Duwe of Monona; three sisters, Martha (Mrs. Harry Reinhardt) of Postville; Anna (Mrs. Will Debes) and Emma (Mrs. Arno Miller) both of Monona. One son passed away in infancy. Since 1908 Mr. Duwe had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.
