Herman Duwe Dies Suddenly
Funeral services for Herman Duwe, 84 were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 27, at 1:30 o'clock at St. Paul Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating, assisted by Rev. Arthur G. Baalson. The body lay in state at the church from 12:30 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in the City cemetery.
Mr. Duwe died suddenly of a heart attack while shoveling snow at his home about 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Jan. 24.
He was born the son of Henry and Marie, nee Donnenbring, Duwe, in Guttenberg, Jefferson township, June 8, 1880.
He was baptized at an early age by Rev. F. W. Seifert at Clayton Center.
He received his education in the rural school near Guttenberg and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Monona.
Most of his life was spent in farming in the Guttenberg, Postville, and Monona area until he retired and moved to Monona about 25 years ago.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Joseph, and one sister, Mrs. William (Anna) Debes.
He is survived by one brother, Walter of Monona, and two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Martha) Reinhardt of Postville and Mrs. Arno (Emma) Miller of Monona.
Pallbearers were Kenneth and Roy Duwe, Eugene Miller, Vern Thompson, Robert Ferguson, Curtis Zieman, Arbie Rose, and Harvey Englehardt.
