MCGREGOR, Iowa -- Marilyn Jean Snyder, 76, of McGregor, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at the Prairie du Chien Hospital.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. Sengol Rajan Arockiasamy officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Cuba City. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1934, in Benton, daughter of Margaret and Victor Lee Powers. She graduated from Benton High School in 1952. Following high school, Marilyn attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque.
Marilyn worked many years at Dun & Bradstreet as a typist in Dubuque. She then worked at the Laundry Basket and was a crossing guard and a long-time volunteer for St. Gabriel's School and Parish.
She married Milton Sheffer in February 1959, in Cuba City; he preceded her in death in March 1964. She then married Everett Snyder in December 1969; he preceded her in death in 1988.
Marilyn was a long-time member of Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, and a member of the VFW Auxillary.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandy (Randy) Thornton, of Marquette; a granddaughter, Trisha (Michael) Denning, of McGregor; a very special niece, Susan (Chuck) Peart, of Saginaw, Texas, who came cross country to care for Marilyn in the final weeks of her life; two stepdaughters, Alice (Marty) Ohlert, of Prairie du Chien, and Susan (Tom) Brabble, of Chocowinity, N.C.; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernie (Phyllis) Powers; and a brother-in-law, Edward Cullen, of Platteville; and various nieces and nephews. When Marilyn's second husband passed away, she became an extended member of the Elton and Shirley Thornton family, with whom she enjoyed many family events
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille and Dorothy; and three brothers John, Melvin and Kenny.
