Funeral services for Alvin E. Doerring, 77, were held Thursday, Nov. 15, 1984 at 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran church, Menahga, MN. The officiants for the service were the Rev. Murley Severtson and the Rev. Duane Nelson. Burial was in Our Savior's Lutheran church cemetery in Pequot Lakes.
Alvin E. Doerring, son of William and Frederika (Garms) Doerring was born Sept. 20, 1907 in Luana. He attended school in the Luana area, graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and received his honorary PhD from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio in 1965.
He taught for many years in Luana, and ran a grocery store and restaurant during that time. While teaching in later years in Pequot Lakes he ran a resort. In 1959 Alvin moved to St. Paul where he was Stewardship Counselor for the American Lutheran church for two years. He was executive director of the American Lutheran Church Men until 1968. In Washington Alvin was the development director for Holden Village in Chelan. He moved back to Minneapolis where he was an alcohol treatment counselor at the New Hope Center until his retirement.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one son-in-law.
Surviving are his wife Lyria of Menahga; two sons, The Rev. Lane Doerring, Menahga and Tate Doerring, of Spring Branch, TX; one daughter, Jerene Mortensen, Roseville, MN; two brothers, Lorenz and John, both of Luana; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
