Abbie Dunning

Funeral services for Abbie Dunning were held Tuesday, March 11, 1986 at 11 a.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. Rev. Ted Ager officiated. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Abbie Smith Dunning was born May 2, 1892 at Hardin, Iowa, the daughter of Louis B. and Mary (Swenson) Smith. She was baptized at the Hardin Church and confirmed at the Clermont Lutheran Church. She received her education in the rural schools.

On February 15, 1916 she married Roy Dunning. The couple had 3 children. After their marriage they farmed several places in the area.

After her husband died she and her son moved to Luana in 1956. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana and of the ALCW. On February 13, 1979 she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Postville. She died Saturday, March 8, 1986 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Roy, who died September 24, 1955, her son Leslie, a grandson Garry, who died in infancy, her sister Eva Brainard.

Surviving are her daughters, Evelyn Linderbaum, Monona, Marian Cook, Decorah, sons-in-law, Lawrence Linderbaum and LaVerne Cook, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Smith of Des Moines, WA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Donald, Robert and Paul Cook, Larry Melaas, Dale Linderbaum, Douglas Drahn, Philip Hofer and Eric Olson.
