Erwin Frederick Dickman

Funeral services for Erwin Dickman were held Tuesday, December 10, 1991 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Joann Martins was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, with military rites by the Carlton E. Kenney American Legion Post No. 518 of Postville.

Erwin Frederick Dickman, son of C. William and Anna (Ruckdaschel) Dickman, was born July 11, 1893 on a farm near Garnavillo. He passed away Sunday, December 8, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

He was baptized on December 17, 1893 by Rev. F. W. Seifert and confirmed on March 24, 1907 by Rev. Braun. Erwin received his education in the rural schools near his home.

He enlisted in the United States Army from 1918 to 1919, serving a period in France. In 1921 he began farming near Postville.

On June 19, 1923 Erwin was united in marriage with Bertha Marie Willman at Postville. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed near Postville until 1950 when they moved to town. Erwin had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since April of 1989.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bertha, who died October 9, 1990, a brother Othmar, and four sisters, Louise (Mrs. Harvey Wirkler), Adelia (Mrs. John Bareis), and Amanda and Malinda Dickman.

Surviving are son son Myrl (Eunice) Dickman of Postville, a daughter, Donna (Marlin) Plaht of Luana, three grandchildren, Sharon Dean, Sandra Hangartner and Robert Plaht, four great-grandchildren, Daniel and Debra Dean and Alex and Austin Hangartner.

Erwin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Casket bearers were Robert Plaht, John Dean, Harvey Wirkler, Lonnie Hangartner, Marlen Schutte, and Arthur Bareis.
