ALMA S. SARGENT…

OELWEIN – Alma S. Sargent, 96, of Oelwein, formerly of Strawberry Point, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2003, at Grandview Healthcare Center, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Strawberry Point United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Blix officiating. Burial will be in Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Alma Sophie Bushkofsky was born Aug. 29, 1907 at Elkport, the daughter of Robert and Sophie (Musfeldt) Bushkofsky. She married Ralph O. Sargent on Sept. 10, 1930 at Bethany, Mo. She and her husband farmed in the Volga area for many years. Alma was also a sales clerk at the Courtnage Drug Store in Strawberry Point. Alma was a longtime Strawberry Point resident and moved to Oelwein in 1991. She had been a resident of the Grandview Health Care Center since February 2002. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church at Strawberry Point.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean (Herman) Sharff of Oelwein; one son, Jim (Dorothy) Sargent of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Jeffery and Jon Sargent, Randy Sharff and Lori Thurm; four great-grandchildren, Brian and Marie Sharff, Nathan and Trevor Thurm; and one sister-in-law, Marguerite Sargent of Lone Tree.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph on July 28, 1980; a great-granddaughter, Erica Thurm; and three brothers, Otto, Albert and Arnold Bushkofsky.
