Lavera Fink, 101, a Strawberry Point resident died on Friday, November 24, 1995 at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She was born to Emery Sargent and Julia Waite on November 3, 1894. She attended school through the eighth grade at a rural country school west of Strawberry Point, Iowa. She lived on a farm in the Strawberry Point area. She was a homemaker. Lavera also lived in Cedar Rapids. While there she worked for Saint Lukes Hospital. When she moved back to Strawberry Point she came to stay. She helped out in the funeral home a number of years. Lavera enjoyed all of nature. She grew flowers and knew and watched for birds. She befriended the Lutheran Home cat. She looked for windmills across the countryside. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and seven brothers. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Alma Sargent and Marguerite Sargent; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 28, 1995 at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Anita Bane officiating the service. Music was provided by organist, Joan Thomas and soloist, Laura Blobaum. Casket bearers were Lavern Sargent, Rob Sargent, Jim Sargent, Steve Sargent, Vance Brooks and Vaylard. Burial was in Cass Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa. Arrangements provided by Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point.
