Leon L. Sargent, son of Emery H. and Ophelia Waite Sargent, was born January 29, 1892, Strawberry Point, Iowa and passed from this life at his home March 18, 1950, at the age of 58 years, 1 month and eighteen days. At the age of nine he moved with his parents on his father’s farm where he spent his boyhood days. He was graduated from the Strawberry Point High school and the Cedar Rapids Business College. In November 1917 he was united in marriage to Hazel A. Willerton. To this union was born two children, Hugh Leroy who passed away in infancy and Max who is at home. He spent most of his married life on a farm near Arlington. In 1945 he purchased his present home which he dearly loved.
His outstanding trait of character was honesty. He labored through life for the well-being of his family. Leon was a man respected and loved by all who knew him. He was a good neighbor, a kind husband and father. He leaves to mourn his death a loving wife and son, also six brothers, Harford, Stanley, Elwin, Emery, Paul and Ralph and two sisters Lavera and Gladys and a host of friends.
Services were held Tuesday in the First Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne L. Carlson. Music was provided by Dr. and Mrs. R.W. Dutton and Mrs. E. L. Gross. Casket bearers were Meron Axtell, Harold Feulner, Gusta Scherman, John Fredrick, Eldo Eckheart and J. O. Gibbs. Flower bearers were Mrs. Adah Nichols, Mrs. Harriette Ehsner and Mrs. John Jewell. The remains were placed in the receiving vault in the Strawberry Point Cemetery.Sources: Obituary courtesy of Joan Patterson
