Virginia L. Donath

Virginia L. "Sis" Donath, 71, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab, formerly of 1623 Washington St., died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Faith Temple United Pentecostal Church, 12805 Seippel Road. Private family committal service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Faith Temple United Pentecostal Church. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Donath worked at General Dry Battery, Dubuque Packing Co. and as a cook at the Frommelt Shafer Care Facility, on Main Street.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1934, in Colesburg, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Lillian (Cole) Davis. She married Walter Donath in 1950; he preceded her in death in October 1984.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, swimming and picnics. She was an avid card player, especially euchre.

Sis' main concern was for her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda A. "Susie" Briggs; four sons, Rick P. (Mary M.) Donath, Greg L. (Nadine) Donath, Walter R. "Beanie" Donath and Jerry D. (Mary A.) Donath, all of Dubuque; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Donath, of Dubuque; a sister, Minnie Ward, of Dubuque; a brother, Cletus (Mildred) Davis, of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Owen Donath, in 1995; a granddaughter, Kristina L. Donath, in 1988; two sisters, Mary Ostrander and Dorothy Wardle; and three brothers, Merlin "Jim", Roy "Dew Drop" and Clarence Davis.
