After a residence of about six years here, they removed to Batavia, Genesee County, New York. Two years later they came to Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois, and in the fall of 1856 moved to Iowa and settled on his farm near Strawberry Point. In 1886 they came to this city where he resided until his death.
Ten children were given to this union, four of whom have gone before him. On October 20th, 1896, he was called to mourn the loss of his wife, the companion of so many years. After a brief illness the end came peacefully Tuesday evening, April 18th, 1905, at the age of 82 years and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. Martlett of Chicago; one brother, James Sargent, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also two daughters, Mrs. Harriet L. Dunsmoor of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Phoebe L. Dunsmoor of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and four sons, Ira H. of Jeffers, Minn.; Emery H. of this place; Allen J. of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ora P. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed his last days at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Dunsmoor of this city. The family will have the sympathy of many friends in their loss.
The funeral services were conducted at the house at 2 o’clock this afternoon by Rev. O. C. Depuy, and interment was made in the Strawberry Point Cemetery.
