Last Rites Held For Lewis McNally

Funeral services were conducted at the Marion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gunder on Saturday, February 25, 2 p.m. for Lewis J. McNally, 87, who passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 22. The Rev. Henry J. Mathre was the officiating minister. Burial was at the Marion Church cemetery.

Lewis Jerome McNally was born on December 2, 1873 in Clayton county, Iowa, the son of Richard and Rosaltha (Rounds) McNally. He died at home on February 22, 1961, at the age of 87 years, two months, and 20 days. He lived his entire life on the home farm six and one-half miles southwest of Luana.

Mr. McNally was united in marriage to Clara Mork on January 19, 1920. To this union was born 11 children. Lewis McNally was baptized on December 16, 1958 by the Rev. Bruce Boyce and at this time became a confirmed member of the Marion Lutheran Church.

Throughout his life he engaged in cattle feeding and general farming. He had the distinction in the latter years of being the third longest shipper of cattle to the Chicago stockyards. Among his interest: Mr. McNally doctored lump-jawed cattle; dehorned cattle; sold silos; and was a salesman for a fertilizer company for 34 years. As a hobby in his early years he was a caller for square dances in Iowa and Wisconsin and maintained an interest in sports, especially basketball and baseball.

Mr. McNally was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary McFaul and Minnie Bunt; one brother, Richard; one son, Wayne Richard, two sisters, Edith and May and three brothers Robert, Cleveland, and Jabe, died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Clara; ten children, Mary (Mrs. Alindo Blattie) of New Hampton, Lucille McNally of Kansas City, Missouri, Delores (Mrs. Hugh Varty) of Minneapolis, Robert McNally of Luana, Shirley (Mrs. Donald Nylund) of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Virginia (Mrs. Robert Rude) Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Betty (Mrs. Richard Searls) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Patricia (Mrs. Paul Smith) of Elgin, Ronald McNally of Iowa City, and Sandra McNally of Luana; 20 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cecil Steele of Waverly; two brothers, W. W. McNally of Healdeburg, California and Marion McNally of Salem, Oregon; and a host of relatives and friends.
