WILLIAM MATT FUNERAL SERVICES HELD
Will Matt, son of Joseph and Mary (Berns) Matt, was born January 17, 1881, at St. Olaf, Iowa. He was baptized in St. Joseph's Church, Garnavillo, Iowa, in January, 1881.
He attended grade school in National and Garnavillo.
On February 4, 1909, he was married to Emilie Mueller in Farmersburg, by Pastor Otto Wappler. They started their married life on the farm where Gary Burrack now lives.
In the year 1921 he was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Peters of National by Rev. John Bunge.
He was active in community affairs and after retiring to Farmersburg in 1938, served as janitor at the Lutheran Church for many years.
He entered the Lutheran Home at Strawberry Point October 9, 1968, where he passed away May 2, 1972, at the age of 91 years, 3 months, 15 days.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 son, Raymond, his 5 brothers, Theodore, Joseph, Hugo, Herbert and Leo and two sisters, Anna Schaffer, and Frances Tuecke, and 1 great-grandchild, Patricia Boten.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Ervin (Doris) Burrack, Arlington, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Huebsch, Strawberry Point, Mrs. Ted (Grace) Burrack, Farmersburg, and Mrs. Carroll (Joan) Oelke, New Hampton, 1 sister, Mrs. Louis (Amanda) Brandt, Garnavillo, 1 brother, Mr. Henry Matt, Elkader, 9 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Tuecke Funeral Home, Garnavillo. Mrs. Richard Steege was the organist and Pastor David Meck conducted the service.
