Homer B. Olson

Homer B Olson, 85, of St. Paul, Minn., died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, of respiratory complications.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. The body was cremated.

Homer was born July 30, 1914, at St. Olaf, the son of Herbert Olson and Bertha Johnson. He attended schools in Clayton County until he entered Luther College. He was an active athlete and played on Luther's football teams, but he was mostly remembered as a star baseball player.

For many years Homer held a 300 perfect game title in bowling in the town of Decorah.

After his life at Luther College, he and Arnold Faldet went to Solar Aircraft School in Des Moines. From there, they were assigned to Consolidated Aircraft Factory in San Diego, Calif. They were kept busy building planes for the war effort in World War II.

On June 20, 1942, Homer was united in marriage to Alphea Faldet. They lived in San Diego for about seven years through the war effort.

After leaving San Diego, he and Alphea moved to St. Paul, Minn. Here Homer was hired to work at the Brown and Bigelow plant, where he continued his employment until retirement in 1976.

His wife, Alphea, started on her job at the Montgomery Ward Credit Department, also continuing to work until she retired in 1976.

Homer Olson was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Nordeen. Survivors include his wife, Alphea.

Homer B. Olson, 85, of St. Paul, Minn., died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, of respiratory complications.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Connie Bolson will be the organist. Hymns will include "Beautiful Savior," "Oh Master Let Me Walk with You," "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say" and "How Great Thou Art."

Interment will be at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church Cemetery. The body was cremated. The Fjelstul Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Homer Olson was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Nordeen; one brother-in-law, Arnold Faldet; one sister-in-law, Virginia (Mrs. Melbourne) Faldet; and one niece, Mary Faldet.
