Services for Earl Francis Melcher were conducted July 2 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona. Father John Moran officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
He died June 30 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a long illness. He had lived there since April 1, 1987.
He was born July 4, 1906 in Clayton County to Joseph and Emma (Moznett) Melcher. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona and received his education in Figge country school near Watson.
November 21, 1938 he married Helen M. Schaefer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. They had 3 children. He farmed east of Monona from 1938 to 1971. They moved into Monona in 1973.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Grace Ramaker.
Surviving is his wife, Helen; 2 sons, Robert, Monona and Joseph, Nevada, IA; a daughter, Mary Miller, Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Roy, Orange, CA and a sister, Clara Ramaker of Gilde, OR.
Pallbearers were Mike Melcher, Kevin Melcher, Keith Miller, Brian Miller, Bruce Kann and Todd Kann.
