Mohs, Elmer A. 1899-1964

Elmer A. Mohs, son of Henry Mohs and Anna (Harnack) Mohs, was born at Farmersburg, Iowa, April 29, 1899. He moved with his family in early childhood to Davis Corners, Iowa, where he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of 14 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, there, March 24, 1912. He received his education in the Davis Corners schools. He moved to Allendale, Minnesota with his parents, and from there to Postville about 1921.

He was married to Esther Doerring, January 18, 1928, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Doerring. The couple started farming south of Luana, later moving to a farm northwest of town. Two children, Keith and Marvin, were born to the union.

The couple retired to Luana in 1959, Mr. Mohs became ill in early July of this year, going to Postville Community Hospital for about a month, then returning home, where he gradually lost strength until he passed away October 19, 1964 at his home. He attained the age of 65 years, five months, and 20 days.

He was a member of St. John Brotherhood, and served on the church council. He also was a member of the Farmers Co-op Society 25 years, Creamery Board 19 years, and Northeast Iowa Creamery Association secretary for several years, besides being active in the Farm Bureau.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, the two sons, Keith of Monona and Marvin of Luana; three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Suckow, Postville, Mrs. Leonard (Florence) Froning, Waverly, Mrs. Fred A. (Leona) Schultz, Postville; two brothers, Harry of Waterloo and Lawrence of Postville.

Five brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Wednesday afternoon, October 21, with the pastor Rev. Luther A. Meyer in charge. Burial was in the Luana Lutheran cemetery.
