A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on June 12, 2010 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa, with visitation held at 10 a.m.
until service time. Burial was at East Side Cemetery, Elkader.Henry Louis “Red” Possehl, 90, of Elkader, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Elkader Care Center. He was born in Elkader, to Henry and Louise (Klink) Possehl on July 22, 1919. He received his education in rural schools in the area.
Red was united in marriage to Loraine Renken on June 19, 1944, in Elkader. Two sons were born to this union. He lived near or in Elkader his entire lifetime; first as a farmer, then as a mill operator at the Elkader Co-op, where he worked for twenty four years before retiring in 1981.
Red was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader Masonic Lodge #72 and also served as a fireman with the Elkader Fire Department. He enjoyed playing Bid Euchre, bingo, attending auctions and restoring the antique tools he purchased at the auctions.
Survivors include his wife Loraine of Elkader; sons, Marlin Possehl of Minneapolis, MN, Mark (Shirley) Possehl of Grundy Center; grandchildren, Matt (Sharon) Possehl, Kendra Pierson (special friend, Kevin Nikolish); great-grandchildren, Haley Pierson, Abigail Pierson and Lucas Possehl, relatives and many friendss.
Red was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Luella Westby, and one step-brother, Elmer Possehl.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his smile.
