Evanson, Alton Orrin 1919-2006

Alton Orrin Evanson, 87, Monona, Iowa, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Northgate Care Center, Waukon, Iowa, following a short illness.

Alton was born March 20, 1919, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, to Oscar and Henrietta (Rema) Evanson. He attended country schools through the eighth grade. Alton was baptized April 30, 1919, and confirmed July 2, 1933.

He was united in marriage to Doris Dundee January 20, 1950, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Eight children were born to this union. Doris passed away in 1987. Alton farmed most of his life and worked at Bituma-Stor, Marquette, for 20 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include eight children, Roger Evanson of Coggon, Charlene (John) Wolter of Dubuque, Ronald (Deb) Evanson of Monona, Dorothy (David) Patterson of Coal Valley, Ill., Connie (Robert) Gunderson of Monona, Randy (Sandra) Evanson of Monona, Jerry Evanson of Ottawa, Ill., Terry Evanson of Monona; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte Mathis of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Honroe and Melbourne Evanson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated. Burial followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers were Robert Evanson, Blake Evanson, Josh Evanson, Jeremy Heins, Michael Wolter, Chris Gunderson, and Adam Evanson.
