Services were held for Mahala Johanna Taake, 82, at the Witt Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 25, 1979, with Rev. Marvin H. Marcks officiating. The interment was in the Clayton Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Wolf, Robert Allen, Homer Griffith, Maurice Larson, Valmah Gossman, and Don Newbern.
Mahalie Johanna, the daughter of the late Wm. and Henrietta Kahlbaum, was born on April 8, 1896 in Read Township of Clayton County and died January 22 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader.
Mahalie was raised and educated in Read Township. On October 1, 1918, she was united in marriage to Hugo Taake on the family farm and they had one daughter, Valerie LaDean. Together they continued to farm in Read Township.
Mahalie was baptized on September 6, 1896 in Clayton Center and later confirmed on April 4, 1909.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hugh in 1934, one brother, George Kahlbaum; four sisters, Mrs. George (Effie) Kruse; Mrs. Louis (Emma) Glawe; Mrs. Carl (Hattie) Kelpien; and Mrs. Lester (Leona) Vogt, and one nephew, Valmah Glawe.
She is survived by her daughter LaDean, Elkader; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mahlia Kahlbaum; 3 nieces, Helen Kruse, Iva Dean Whitman and June Kelpien and one nephew, LaVerne Glawe, and many friends.
She was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ and the women’s Fellowship, until her health failed.
