Mrs. George Kelpien 1885-1958
Funeral services for Mrs. George Kelpien, 73, were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 22, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center with Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
Mrs. Kelpien died Thursday evening, Sept. 18, in Memorial Hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, where she had been for over two weeks following a stroke.
She was born Linda Louise Vogt near Clayton Center on April 12, 1885, and spent her entire life in Read township and Elkader. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Lena Vullgraf Vogt.
On December 13, 1995, she was married at the home of her parents to George Kelpien. With her husband, she lived on a Read township farm until 1937, when they retired and moved to their home in Elkader. Mr. and Mrs. Kelpien celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Dec. 13, 1955.
Bedies her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Arno Heuer of Garnavillo and on granddaughter, Marleen; two brothers, Fred and Arthur Vogt, both of Elkader; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Lahrs, Mrs. Louis Radloff and Mrs. Paul Haverland, all of Elkader, and one half-sister, Mrs. Theodore Glawe, also of Elkader.
Mrs. Kelpien was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid at Clayton Center. She was baptized July 26, 1885, by the Rev. F. W. Seifert and was also confirmed by him on March 26, 1899.
Pallbearers were Carlys Best, Floyd Schroeder, Reuben Glawe, Keith Meyer, Eddie Kadlec and Freddie Stendel.
