Karl Frederick William Landt, son of Karl and Wilhelmina (Radloff) Landt, was born on August 5, 1880 in Germany where he was also baptized in his infancy. When he was 11 months old, he came to this country with his parents. They first lived near Garnavillo and later moved to a farm south of Luana. As a young man, he not only helped with the work on the farm but also hauled milk for many years. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 7, 1895 at Monona.

In 1903, he was united in marriage with Emma Theis. She passed away in 1932. In 1933, he married Frieda Buckmann. They retired to Luana in 1952 and in 1964, she passed away.

Mr. Landt had been quite well until a week ago Sunday when he was taken to the hospital where he passed away on Friday morning at the age of 86 years, eight months and nine days.

Mr. Landt had been an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. He was a member of the Brotherhood and the Cemetery Board. He served for many years on the Luana Creamery Board and was president of the board for a time.

Surviving are one son, Helmuth of Luana, who has served for many years as organist of this congregation; one daughter, Marie, who is Mrs. Louis Lenth of Postville, one sister, Mrs. Frieda Cox of Milwaukee, one half-brother, Henry Landt of Postville, and one half sister, Mrs. Ida Heins of Luana; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; also two step-children, Mrs. Elmer (Rosalyn) Krambeer of Postville and Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Sebastian of Dubuque, step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wives, two sons, Lorenz, who died in infancy and Clarence, who died in 1950; two brothers, Fred and Charles; two sisters, Minnie and Dalia; one half-brother, Herman, one granddaughter, Delores, who was Mrs. James Hansel, and one great grandson, Alan Jarmes.

Services were held April 17, at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana; with burial in St. John Lutheran cemetery.
