George Marion Lambert, son of Enos and Esther (Holcomb) Lambert, was born at Castalia, February 19, 1874, and died after a short illness at Postville on March 30, 1958, just eight days after the death of his wife. He was 84 years, one month and 11 days of age.
He was educated in a country school near Castalia, then at Leander Clark college in Toledo, Iowa. Shortly after his marriage to Rena L. Shaffer on August 30,1896, he moved to Postville for two years, then to Luana, where he has lived the last 60 years. For the 60 years prior to his retirement in 1954 he served as agent-operator for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company.
His parents, four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Surviving are his two sons and one daughter: Joe of Sarasota, Florida, Kenneth of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, and Louise (Mrs. Irving Engelhardt) of Luana; one sister, Mrs. Eva Ebersole of Rhodes, Iowa; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces and more distant relatives; and a large number of friends.
