Funeral Services Held for Harry Luster
Funeral services for Harry Clarence Luster, 63, were held Monday afternoon, June 28, at 2 o'clock at the First United Methodist church of Monona with Rev. Raymond Pacholke officiating.
The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock p.m. until the time of the services. Burial was in the Rossville cemetery with military rites conducted at the grave by the American Legion and Amvets posts.
Mr. Luster was taken to Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City, Feb. 28, and on March 2 he underwent surgery for a brain tumor. He was transferred to the Prairie du Chien Convalescent Center, May 25, where he died Thursday morning, June 24.
He was born a son of John and Olive Gaylord Luster, Sept. 3, 1907, at Harpers Ferry. He was baptized into the United Methodist church and was a member of the Monona First United Methodist church. He attended Fairview Township school in Allamakee county.
He served in the army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 519 of Monona. He was married to Geraldine Tipton at Sigourney, March 6, 1946.
Preceding him in death were a son, Donald, who died in infancy; his father; and two brothers, John of Harpers Ferry, and Minor of Caro, Mich.
Those left to remember him include his wife, Geraldine; one son, Harry Jr. (Susan) Luster and one granddaughter, Dawn Denise Luster of Charleston Heights, S. C.; one daughter, Norma Jean Luster at home; his mother, Mrs. Olive Luster of Monona; two sisters, Mrs. Clem (Violetta) Schellsmidt of McGregor; and Mrs. Fernette Echard of Monona; two brothers, Earl of Marquette and Robert of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Nephews serving as pallbearers were Harland, Ernest, John, James and Charles Luster, and Donald Rissman.
