Looney, Mary Ann (Downey) 1924-1995

Mary Ann Looney, daughter of Joe and Hildegard (Peick) Downey was born July 3, 1924, at Elkader, Iowa. She died Tuesday, January 10, 1995 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa.

She graduated from Monona High School. On November 26, 1949 she was married to Raymond F. Looney in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Monona, Iowa. To this union, four children were born. They farmed on the family place in Grand Meadow Township until 1975, when they moved to their present home on the south edge of Postville. Ray and Mary operated their own feed business for five years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, who died May 17, 1994, her parents and a brother, Charles Downey. Surviving are her children, Stan (LuAnn) Looney of Postville, Jim (Karen) Looney of Luana, Kathy (Kevin) Stanford of Cedar Rapids and Marty (Annette) Looney of Marion; five grandchildren: Lance, Kam and Klare Looney and Brock and Hannah Looney; two brothers, Bob (Joann) Downey of Marion, IA and Keith (Mary Jo) Downey of Laramie, WY; two sister, Mildred Walch of Elkader and Cathryn (Harold) Grimme of Cadiz, KY and a sister-in-law, Helen Downey of Edgewood, IA.

Mary was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville.

Honorary casket bearers were Delbert Martins, Keith Smith, Lyle Zieman, Mervin Larson and Bernard Saddler. Casket bearers were Stuart Schultz, Myron Schultz, Michael Looney, Don Drahn, Mark Downey and Ken Beardmore.

A funeral mass for Mrs. Ray Looney was held Saturday, January 14, 1995 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville, Iowa. Father Leo Riley was the Celebrant. David Hentges was the Lector, Carol Katsumes was the organist and the Mass Servers were Paul Rechsteiner and Sam Saddler. The ushers were James and Ron Lechtenberg. Ronald Meyer and St. Bridget's Choir provided special music.
