Helen “Cissy” Frances Spinner, age 84, of McGregor died at her home after a brief illness Friday, February 19, 2010. Funeral services were held Friday, February 26 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, rural Harpers Ferry, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers were Joshua Kenneth Spinner, Simone Frances McKenna Spinner, Peggy June Spinner, Jordan Theodore Jayko Spinner, Bodie Jon Spinner, Dominic Piunno, Breyda Bleu Spinner, Carmen Piunno and Keota Bogue Spinner. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.

Cissy was born the daughter of Richard and Olive (Powers) Bogue June 2, 1925 in Marquette. Cissy graduated from Mar-Mac High School and later attended classes at Calmar for Nursing. She was married October 20, 1945 to Theodore “Tady” Peter Spinner, Jr. After their marriage, Cissy moved to the Spinner family farm in rural Waterville to raise her family.

Cissy was very artistically talented and she professionally hand-painted black and white photographs for Marge Goergen’s Photography Studio in the early years of her marriage. She maintained this love of art and painted or crocheted her entire life.

Cissy and Tady lived on the farm until 1970. During this time she was very close with her sister-in-law, Rita Spinner Monroe. After leaving the farm they moved to Waukon, where Cissy worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital and Tady was involved with Northeast Iowa Sale Barn with the Nordheims.

In the early 1970s the couple moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Cissy became involved with property management. Working for the next 20 years, Cissy built her business until she was overseeing several apartment complexes and 800-plus units.

Cissy and Tady retired and returned to McGregor in 1992 to be closer to her mother, sister and brother. They spent the next 10 to 12 years traveling several months a year to warmer locations across the United States and Mexico, Cissy loved to travel! In her later years she enjoyed her garden and flowers and she was always ready to cook an excellent meal for everyone.

Cissy is survived by three sons, Richard Gene Spinner of Denver, CO, and Michael Lee Spinner and Scott Theodore Spinner, both of McGregor; one daughter, Barbara Marie Olivia of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren, Joshua Kenneth Spinner and his wife, Peggy, Simone Frances McKenna Spinner, Dominic Piunno, Carmen Piunno, and Jordan Jayko Spinner, all of Denver, CO; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones. Her parents preceded her in death, along with her husband, Tady; her sister, Myrtle Goheen; and her brother, Gene Bogue.
Cissy will be greatly missed by all of her family and her friends.
