Funeral services for Alma Leuchtenmacher were held Saturday, Feb. 23, 1:30 p.m. at the Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader. Rev. Lloyd J. Helland officiated. Interment was in the East Side Cemetery, Elkader. Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader, was in charge of arrangements.
Alma Sophie Leuchtenmacher was born May 12, 1898 in Read Township, Clayton County, IA. Her parents were G. F. William and Alvina (Wilke) Mueller. She died February 20, 1991 at the Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point, where she had resided for the past two and a half years.
She was baptized by the Rev. F. W. Seifert and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Theo Guetzloff on March 30, 1912 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg.
June 4, 1918 she married John Leuchtenmacher at Elkader. Rev. C. H. Franke officiated. The couple had six children. They farmed all their lives, of which 46 years were spent near Mederville on an acreage. John died on September 2, 1969.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sons, Floyd, Dec. 7, 1974, and twins in infancy; 3 brothers, Helmuth, Bill and Arno Mueller; 2 sisters, Emma Havelick and Louisa Dorman and by her parents.
Survivors include a son, Clifford, of St. Olaf; 2 daughters, Mrs. Leighton (Ellen) Bente, of Elkader and Mrs. Herbert (Inez) Friedlein, of Farmersburg, 18 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Alvina Landt, of Monona, Mrs. Amanda Dennler, of Elkader, Mrs. Sophie Wacker, of Waukon and Mrs. Greta Bruns, of Decorah and a brother, Henry, of St. Olaf.
Casket bearers were Robert Bente, Larry Friedlein, John Suhr, Gordon Teggatz, Floyd, Jr. and Dennis Leuchtenmacher.
