KEITH LAND KILLED SERVING IN GERMANY

Keith Land, 23, husband of Lavonne Koehn of Monona, was killed while on duty in Germany, Saturday morning, May 25, at 9:57 o'clock, the secretary of the army announced.

He stated that Specialist Third Class Land was killed as a result of multiple lacerations and of concussions due to misfiring of an artillery piece. The accident occurred near Frankfurt, Germany.

Land was serving with the 267th armored field artillery. He had been in the army 19 months and planned to be released from service August 15. He took his training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Before entering service, he was employed by the Luana-Monona Cooperative dairy. He was married to Lavonne Koehn, September 23, 1954.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Land of Luana, and two sisters, Dixie Land of Luana and Mrs. Walter (Rita) Hartley of Denver, Colorado.

Rites Held For Keith H. Land

Keith Harlowe, son of Joe and Vivian (Ingels) Land, was born north of Luana, Iowa on July 26, 1933, and died of injuries received in the course of military duties in Germany on May 25, 1957, at the age of 23 years, nine months and 29 days.

He was educated in the Luana public schools, graduating from high school in 1953. He received his formal religious training in the Methodist Sunday School and later became an active member of the Luana Methodist Church. He was active in community life, especially in baseball. Just prior to his entrance into military service he was employed by the Luana-Monona Cooperative Creamery. On September 24, 1955, he was married to LaVonne Koehn of Monona. For the last 14 months of his life he served in the United States Army in Germany, the last two as Specialist 3rd Class.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne of Monona; by his parents of Luana; by two sisters, Rita (Mrs. Walter Hartley) of Denver, Colorado, and Dixie of Luana; by a number of more distant relatives; and a great number of friends who mourn his going.

Rites were held Monday with the Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer, pastor of the Luana and Monona Methodist church, in charge.
