Robert C. Garms, 72, of Dubuque, died October 5, 1996, at his home following a short illness.
Funeral services were Thursday, October 10, 10:30 a.m. in Dubuque with the Rev. Steven D. Clingman, pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, with the Rev. Christopher Staley, pastor of St. John Lutheran, Luana, conducting the committal service.
He was born March 9, 1924 at Monona, son of Robert W. and Harriet (Russell) Garms. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona and was a graduate of Monona High School.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. Following his military service he married Laurene Rose, December 30, 1949. They moved to Dubuque in 1950 where he worked as a machinist at the Adams Co., and retired after 32 years. At the time of his death, he worked at St. Stephen's Food Bank.
Surviving are his son, Dan (Jeanne) Garms, Barrington, IL; his grandchildren, Gabe, Matt and Elliott; and two sisters, Gloria Looney, Postville, and Joanne Peterson, Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laurene in March 1987; son Mark, July 1963; and brother Russell, September 1987.
