Orville Elmer Ernest Ruckdaschel, 79, Monona, Iowa, formerly of Postville, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa, following a brief illness. Orville was born on July 2, 1930, in rural Clayton County Iowa to Victor and Welma (Ihde) Ruckdaschel. He attended Springfield Country School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II until he was honorably discharged.

Orville was united in marriage to Maria Lauwaert on November 28, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Postville, Iowa, and then moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1972, where Orville worked for Caterpillar as a mechanic. They moved to Monona, Iowa, in 1983, and Orville drove truck until he retired in September 2000. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty (Donald) Knuth, Ankeny, Rose Marie Doerring, Monona; one sister-in-law, Betty Timmerman, Decorah and a host of other family and friends.

Orville was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Maria, on July 22, 2000; one brother, Earl Ruckdaschel; two step-sisters, Ileta Christofferson, Eunice Halverson; one step-brother, Merrill Dean Ruckdaschel and two nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
