Memorial services were held at 11 am January 22, 2010 at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa for Debbie Sue Meyer, who died January 18, 2010.

Debbie Sue Meyer, 52, of Monona, Iowa, died Monday, January 18, 2010, at the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN, following a brief illness. Debbie was born on August 4, 1957, Prairie du Chien, WI, to Calvin and Shirley (Sass) Henkes. She graduated from MFL High School with the class of 1975.

Debbie was united in marriage to Brian Meyer on September 4, 1976, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Debbie and Brian started farming east of Monona, Iowa following their marriage. She took great pride in their farm, raising pigs and watching Nicholas and Phillip become involved in the farming operation.

Debbie could be found outside tending to her flowers, mowing her lawn and helping on the farm. She enjoyed listening to Shannon play the piano at home, at school and at Norway Lutheran Church. Her favorite summer past time was going on “Family Vacations” to the Clayton County Fair, where she would watch Nicholas, Shannon and Phillip show livestock.

She felt truly blessed by the addition of her grandchildren and she brought as much joy into their lives as they did into hers. Debbie enjoyed looking at life through their eyes and the focus of her life was to always be there for her children and grandchildren.

Debbie looked forward to Sunday morning church, picnics in the woods and going on her walks. She would go out of her way to help her extensive family and friends. She was also a committee member of Clayton County FSA for eleven years and worked at Clayton County Recycling. Debbie always had a smile on her face and took great pride in everything she did; she appreciated the simple things in life.

Survivors include her husband, Brian Meyer, Monona; her mother, Shirley Henkes, Luana; three children, Nicholas (Elsie) Meyer, Monona, Shannon (Wyatt) Dodd, McGregor, Phillip (Amanda) Meyer, Monona; four grandchildren, Willem and Sullivan Dodd and Aidan and Charlotte Meyer; five sisters, Deanna Sandberg, Rockford, IL, Marsha (Lloyd) Feickert, Marion, Sheryl (Steve) Kruse, Hiawatha, Janice (Rick) Johanningmeier, Monona, Jeanne (Paul) Miller, Luana; two brothers-in-law, Bill Jurging, Cedar Rapids, Dave Schrader, Clear Lake, and many nieces and nephews.
