The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of the services.

Mrs. Gruel had been in failing health for the last several years. In the last two weeks her health failed rapidly. She was taken to the Postville hospital, Tuesday morning, July 6. She died there after she had been in the hospital about 20 minutes at about 4:45 a.m.

In November, 1959, Mrs. Gruel moved with her son, Lester, to their present home in Monona.

Mrs. Gruel was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran church at Farmersburg. As long as her health permitted, she attended the various worship services and was always ready to be of service where needed. She was also a member of the Women of the Church organization.
