Funeral services for Elsa Gossman were held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1983 at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Ted Ager officiated. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. In charge of arrangements was Schultz's Funeral home.

Elsa Bertha Gossman, the daughter of John and Minna (Meier) Jahnke, was born July 22, 1901. She died Nov. 11, 1983 at her home.

Elsa was born and grew up in the Postville and Luana area. She was baptized Sept. 1, 1901 in Postville and was confirmed April 16, 1916 in Luana. She received her education in the Postville and Luana public school systems.

She married Harley F. Gossman, Garnavillo, Dec. 21, 1921. To this union one child was born, Mila Mae. They lived in Garnavillo and Guttenberg for five years before moving to Luana in August, 1927.

Elsa was active in various church choirs since she was 13-years old. She last sang in St. John's Choir Dec. 21, 1975. She was active in St. John's Ladies Aid for years and was a charter member of the Missionary Society of Garnavillo when it was organized in 1922.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, her sister and her husband. He died Nov. 27, 1955.

Surviving are her daughter, Mila Mae; her son-in-law, William Staley, Luana; two granddaughters, Mrs. Dale (Crystal) Howard and Mrs. Stan (Kathleen) Howard. Great Falls, MT; and three great grandchildren, William, Rebecca and Trevor Howard.
