Funeral Services for Henry F. Genz At Luana Thursday

Funeral services were held last Thursday, February 22, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana for Henry F. Genz, 75, who passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Kruse. The rites were in charge of Rev. Paul W. Adix, pastor of St. John's.

Henry Frederick Genz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Genz, was born November 22, 1875 at Cleveland, Ohio and was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At the age of nine, he came westward with his parents and they settled in the North McGregor, now called Marquette, area. In 1888 the family moved westward where they farmed in the McGregor and Luana vicinity.

On May 9, 1902, Mr. Genz was married to Mary Kamps and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive. They include Eda, Mrs. LeRoy Kruse of Luana; Florence, Mrs. Walter Bugenhagen of Postville; and Elmer of Postville.

Mr. and Mrs. Genz farmed for seven years in Wagner township; in 1910 they moved to the farm now known as the Elmer Mohs place.

Mrs. Genz died in 1928. Four years later Mr. Genz retired from the farm. He spent the first eight years of his retirement with his son Elmer in Postville. The last year, with health failing, he stayed with his daughter, Mrs. Kruse, and for a short time with his daughter Mrs. Bugenhagen. He passed away February 19 at 9:00 p.m. at the Kruse home at the age of 75.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a number of brothers and sisters. He leaves to mourn his death, this three children, one aged sister, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
