Funeral services were held for Viola Bernice Gisleson, 77, Tuesday, July 23, 1991, at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Rev. William Palmquist officiated the service with burial in Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder. Pallbearers were David, Jason and Todd Winter, Steve and Mike Baker and Albert Hanson.
Viola Bernice Gisleson was born October 21, 1913, near Elgin, the daughter of William and Bertha (Christianson) West. She grew up and was educated in the area attending the Cook rural school. She was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church. On December 31, 1931, she was united in marriage to Otto Gisleson at St. Olaf. Three daughters were born to this union. Together they farmed near Gunder over the years. Her husband died April 19, 1977. She moved to Clermont in 1984. After an extended illness Viola Gisleson died Saturday, July 20, 1991, at Palmer Lutheran health Center in West Union. She was a lifelong member of Marion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Laurence (Eleanor) Naylor of Arlington, Mrs. Gerald (Joann) Winter of Des Moines, and Kathleen Berg of Anaheim, Calif.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Gehard Groth of Decorah.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Otto; a granddaughter Eleanor Loraine Naylor; a great-granddaughter, Whitney Nicole Christensen; a brother, Lawrence West; and by her parents.
