Robert L. Heath, 55, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton following a long illness.

Visitation was one hour before services at the funeral home. Funeral services were Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.

Robert was born Nov. 18, 1954, in Sycamore, Ill., to Robert Elmer and Shirley (Plucker) Heath. He spent most his life in the tool and dye industry and was plant manager at ITW Shakeproof in Guttenberg for many years.

Bob resided in Elkader for the past fifteen years with soul mate Betsy Zein. He had varied interests including stone carving, wine making, woodworking, music, football, camping, dogs, gardening, cooking and could fix anything. He also enjoyed the company of good family and friends.

Bob is survived by Betsy Zein, Elkader; sons, Robert (Laura) Heath, Los Angeles, Calif., Thomas Heath, Cedar Rapids and Matthew Heath, Iowa City; step-daughter, Erin Zein, North Liberty; his mother, Shirley Shedd, Crystal Lake, Ill.; siblings, Rhonda (Joe) Palshis, Rory Heath and Randy (Diane) Shedd, all of the Chicago area and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Tom Shedd and his sister, Renee Heath.
